The idea of Children of the Lake arose one day when I was sitting alongside the lake in San Pedro contemplating how I could give back to the wonderful people of Lake Atitlan. My background is in education, and I thought that by helping the children gain a better education I would be able to help the future of this little tucked away diamond. I have never liked to directly ask for money so I had to come up with an idea that could raise money for the children of Lake Atitlan. Then a light switched on and I thought I could run a trip that brings people from Australia to San Pedro to study Spanish, visit local schools and see some of the wonderful sights that Guatemala has to offer as well. When a person choses to travel with Children of the Lake all of the profits that would usually go to the owner of the company will go into providing education, or towards important supplies needed for the children living in extreme poverty in Guatemala. I also thought that when others come to study and live in San Pedro they would feel like I do and want to help the children as well.
